Team Orion racer Ryan Cavalieri has dominated the 9th running of the Dirt Nitro Challenge in Arizona winning both the buggy and truggy classes, but in qualifying it was Team Losi racer Adam Drake, using the new GRP motor that TQ’d in both classes. In the truggy final it was Ryan Lutz that took the early lead and looked like he would take the win, but a rear differential problem saw him drop out and this leaving James on his roof which meant he had to settle for 3rd. The buggy class final saw and early lead for the Drake who was followed by O’Donnell racer Jared Tebo, with Mike Truhe and Ryan Cavalieri catching. Two thirds of the way into the race Truhe had managed to gain a lead of 6 seconds from Cavalieri who was closing and with 1 minute to go he made the pass and was able take the win, by just over 1 tenth of a second in front of Truhe with Adam Drake taking 3rd.

The 1st Annual Psycho Nitro Blast was held at Henderson Arena in Atlanta, Ga. The race drew 346 racers despite it being the inaugural race. Carolina’s R/C, ModHobby.com, CEN Racing and OCM were the main sponsors. Production Monster Truck, Sportsman’s Buggy, Pro Buggy and Pro Truggy were the classes racers could compete in. Pro Buggy was the biggest class, and Trinity’s Chad Phillips took the win with his Team Losi 8IGHT buggy powered by Trinity’s new nitro engine and Platinum fuel. Other winners included Mark Holloway in Production Monster Truck, Trey Cook in Sportsman’s Buggy, and Dustin Bunch in Pro Truggy. According to racers, the track was very challenging with sections called Shock Therapy, the Dragon’s Tail and the dreaded Leap of Faith. Kyosho have been in touch to tell us that their team driver Ryan Lutz drove his Sirio-powered Inferno 777 WC buggy and Inferno ST-RR truck to wins in their respective classes during the 13th Annual Midwest Nitro Champs at the popular CRCRC facility last weekend. Lutz TQ’ed the truggy class and, even with two lengthy pit stops to repair some body damage, led the last 60 laps of the main to take a decisive victory. In the 1:8 buggy class, Lutz qualified sixth which meant he had a tough task ahead if he hoped to sweep both 1:8 classes, however a superior driving performance allowed Lutz to pull to the front of the pack. An unfortunate flameout in the latter stages of race erased a comfortable half-lap lead and put Lutz nearly a full lap down to Mayfield. Once back on the track, Lutz bumped his pace to more than a full second a lap faster over the next 30 laps, closing an entire lap on Mayfield and making the inevitable pass to take the victory, completing the sweep of both classes.

To be hosted by the UK’s premier 1/8th nitro off road club, Remote World in Slough, the 3rd Annual Pro-Line Challenge will take place over the bank holiday weekend of May 3rd, 4th and 5th. The usual timetable will apply with practice on Saturday, qualifying on Sunday and finals on Monday along with control tyres and freebies.

Round four of the Novarossi Raceway Winter Series was run last weekend and the event went like clockwork which meant plenty of racing for everyone. Elliot Boots took control of the meeting in round one with a stunning time to ensure maximum points for the round. It was then the turn of David Spashett to take rounds 2 and 3 securing TQ for the day. In the main final trouble for David at the start of the final put him all the way to the back, while Elliot Boots, Reece Sawyer and Simon Reeves took to the front of the pack and never looked back, all three holding there positions for the 20 minute final. An excellent battle between Richard Bettaney and David Spashett completed the top 5 for the day. In the truggy class local star Joe Joyce had a terrible time and had to bump from the B final to then continue his better luck and form to finish third overall. TQ man Chris Larner didn’t get the rub of the race track to convert his TQ to the win which left Steve Slayford to drive an exceptional race and the overall victory.
